A NEW IMPETUS FOR CONTEMPORARY ART IN FRANCE WITH PARIS+ BY ART BASEL

After a clash between two giants of the organization of fairs, the RX France group (FIAC, Paris Photo) and the MCH group (Art Basel), it is finally MCH who is retained to the detriment of the FIAC to organize a contemporary art fair in October in the Grand Palais Éphémère until 2023 and then at the Grand Palais when it reopens in 2024. The giant Art Basel had expressed the wish to create its fair in Paris following which, Reunion des Musées Nationaux-Grand Palais had launched a call for proposals relaunching the dice and putting into play the well-established place of the FIAC for the next seven years. By choosing Art Basel, the RMN-GP is positioning itself to “promote Paris at the highest international level while cultivating the richness of the Parisian ecosystem”.
Après un combat choc entre deux géants de l’organisation de foires, le groupe RX France (FIAC, Paris Photo) et le groupe MCH (Art Basel), c’est finalement MCH qui est retenu au détriment de la FIAC pour organiser une foire d’art contemporain en octobre dans le Grand Palais Éphémère jusqu’en 2023 puis ensuite au Grand Palais à sa réouverture en 2024. En effet, le géant Art Basel avait émis le souhait de créer sa propre foire à Paris suite à quoi, la Réunion des Musées nationaux-Grand Palais a lancé un appel à proposition relançant les dés et mettant en jeu la place pourtant bien ancrée de la FIAC et ce pour les sept prochaines années. En choisissant Art Basel, la RMN-GP se positionne afin de « faire rayonner Paris au plus haut niveau international tout en cultivant la richesse de l’écosystème parisien ».
After Art Basel in Basel, Miami, and Hong Kong, the grand leaders of contemporary art fairs will therefore inaugurate its Parisian version this fall, baptized Paris+ by Art Basel. Après Art Basel à Bâle, Miami et Hong Kong, le mastodonte des foires d’art contemporain inaugurera donc cette automne sa version parisienne baptisée Paris+ par Art Basel. Bien que comptant diverses foires d’art majeures (FIAC, Art Paris, Paris Photo), il n’est pas anodin qu’une capitale mondiale au cœur du monde de l’art telle que Paris s’associe avec une organisation internationale de foire d’art de cette envergure. Avec Paris+, la place de Paris dans le paysage du marché de l’art contemporain international se renforce davantage.
