Wilks’ interest in the natural world has enabled her to tap into it and reflect it in her work. She has chosen to bypass common patterns and imagery to explore less tangible structures, such as rhythm, timelessness, peace, connectedness, query, reality et al. Nature is the harbinger of peace and protection from the constructs of our minds. It is the link to our knowing ourselves. So applying aspects of nature is Wilks’ means of expressing her experience of herself in peace. Wilks uses natural materials blended with paint on a wood substrate. Her style is infused with the simplicity, wonder, sophistication, and perfection of nature herself.
